Should babies cry?

Or should they always look this peaceful?

This is the question I wrestle with at home with Noah... I think he ranks somewhere between the baby who never fusses and the baby that cries all day and all night...

And the curse of every new mom is the intense desire to know WHY the baby is crying-and I am rapidly discovering that the "why" answers are hard to come by. Noah loves to eat but gets fussy after he eats--why doesn't he drift off into a peaceful slumber after filling his belly? Sometimes Noah will fall asleep and then wake up 10 minutes later with a look of consternation on his tiny face--why? Noah seems to sleep really well (sometimes for 3 hour chunks)--why doesn't he like the actual process of falling asleep and always seems to fuss as part of the process?

And why can't I get that crazy eye gunk to go away???

Ah... the trials and tribulations of a new mom... and to think, last year at this time, all of my "why" questions revolved around 7th graders -- why didn't you do your homework? why do you insist on talking during class? why did you poke her? why can't you remember your locker combination? Equally hard questions to find the answers to...

We always called it the presleep fuss. They know they want to go to sleep but they can't get there fast enought. Grace was a huge fan of the presleep fuss!

i think i told you that bailey was cursed with constant eye infections her first 9 months... a couple of things helped... 1. I would take a baby wash cloth, wet it with warm (almost hot) water and rub the corners of her eyes and under her eyes to help unclog the tear ducts multiple times a day, usually while she was sleeping 2. I would NEVER use my fingers to get the gunk out, that ALWAYS resulted in a much worse infection and/or antibiotic drops and 3. the antibiotic drops! We saw her ped constantly so they finally just gave us the drops so we could use them as-needed (which was amazing) and finally we saw the eye doctor b/c of the eye gunk. She had the tear duct unclogging surgery at 9 months and hasn't had a problem since. Keep at i! It's annoying, ugly and a pain in the you know what... just another not-talked much about joy of parenting! :)

Hey Deb,

This sounds like Tee and Scotty rolled into one! We also had the tear duct surgery at 3 months old. We had to do it twice...but it did the trick. Tee was very colicky(sp?) the first three months. Interestingly enough, it was at the same time each night that she would kick the hardest in my belly!

It made me crazy and my mom kept making us try all of these old time remedies...tea,Karo syrup too much food too early etc...

Can you tell me once again what the vital statistics are on Noah? height, weight etc.
